I personally would like to hear more bands play Karl L. King marches. Mt. Carmel for example did a great job playing Barnum & Bailey's Favorite the past marching season. Maybe Rancho Bernardo could possibly pull off Purple Pageant, Montebello is the only band that I've seen attempt it successfully lately.

regarding The Purple Pageant.....have you ever heard a recording of Colton High from 1975? Tom Jackson was the director....amazing!

Yes I have! Great performance of it. Have you heard Montebello from 1980? They scored a 93.60 with it.

Yes-they did a nice job, as they did on many marches for many years...Army of the Nile in, I think, 1978, was excellent...

Don't know about the south, but in Northern California Concord High School (speaking of grapevines) is playing it.

Wait, so Schurr is playing the Gallant Seventh again?
They played that in 2010, isn't that against SCSBOA parade Rules?

I am pretty sure that is a mistake. I have a pretty good idea of what they are playing and I know it is not Gallant Seventh. But I don't want to say what it is at the moment, without the directors ok.

I agree on this. The march is fine, I have just heard it played so many times (and so poorly) that it earned its reputation. I do think it's... well, aiming kinda low for a band of RB's caliber. It's not a terribly challenging march, which is why it is one of the "go-to" marches for small bands with instrumentation issues.

This reminds me of when they (RB) did Glorious Victory back in the 90's.

Back in 2004, I was surprised when Glendora HS played Bravura and they had a great run that year (as they do every year) and actually there have been a couple bands that have played this march fairly well in recent years (John Glenn HS & Crescenta Valley HS). I look forward to seeing RB perform it.
