I was looking at the LA County Fair website and found this PDF informational/entry form quite interesting. This is part of it:

"We are excited to announce that The L.A. County Fair Association has signed a multi-year agreement with the Tournament of Roses Committee. The winner of the 2009 L.A. County Fair High School Marching Band Parade Competition will perform in the 2011 Rose Parade!! Many bands will compete but only one will be selected as the Fair’s Grand Champion and receive the highest honor by representing the L.A. County Fair in the world’s most famous parade seen by millions on New Years Day.*"

The rest is on here

I also took Gonzofoto's reply of the scheduled bands performing so it's easier to find. Thanks Gonzo.

Click on the underlined bands below that have performed already to watch their performance on YouTube. Remember, since all my videos from now on will be viewable in high definition (Except Pomona HS...don't know what happened there :? ), you may want to wait for them to buffer out first.

Enjoy :)

my question is, why do they perform two years later? why not this year? wouldnt you think that the winner of THIS year should go to THIS years rose parade?

The Tournament of Roses chooses the bands for their parade at least 2 years in advance of the parade date. This allows bands chosen to be in the Rose Parade adequate time to raise funds that will enable the band to travel to Pasadena, have housing, do any "extra" tourist things, etc. For bands close by, some choose to get new uniforms or instruments for the parade.

Anyone know the lineup for the bands? Which bands on which days? I emailed the fair, and got no response. Thanks! :D

The last time Damien attended this event, we were diverted off the parade route and led to the stage area where our mayor was getting ready to speak. Our guide informed us that we should play a 30 minute set for the mayor. No advance-notice, nothing. i was so mad! I told the lovely young person that we could play our fight song for 30 minutes, but that's about it. We played it through twice and walked away. Very unprofessional. Never even asked me...just led my drum major to the stage.

So i am in the last year of my self-imposed boycott. Watch out next year!!!

Our band did this "parade" for the last, oh 10 years or so, but we're not going this year. Budget cuts to our transportation budget ended up with us losing 60% of our transportation funds and something had to go. The fair isn't the best organized "parade", the marching course is super narrow, too many drunks running in between the band, plus competing with the vroom vroom noises of classic cars revving their engines all along the parade route made it not the most fun or easiest event to march. So we're skipping this event this year. Hope everyone else has a successful time. If you're going on Sept. 16, go check out Citrus College's Night Shift and Blue Note Swing Orchestra (not sure of the exact location they'll be at) - they are both AWESOME!!! And my daughter just made it into Blue Note so I admit I'm a little biased! :yeah:

Well, us and Ayala did go for two years in a row because the City of Chino Hills requested we go to represent our city and they footed the bill for transportation. But for the past two years Chino Hills day has fallen on Home Games for both of our schools. So we are unable to attend.

Dude, you know it. Our specialty is lame arrangements of Christmas tunes for marching band for the community parade. We're visionaries over here. Pretty soon, the "santa hat" will be the preferred head-wear for Band Reviews across the state.
