Changes to SCSBOA championship system?? (just ideas...)

i was trying to think of ways to make championships more interesting. the qualifying process, i mean. obviously shows are the interesting part. but this is just for fun. and then i had what i thought to be a good idea, to make it somewhat congruent with major sports.

why not introduce a system that rewards captions in a way to re-seed bands... AND, a system that allows for 3 wild-card spots??? and heres what MY system would be.

13 bands would make the Championships:
ONLY 10 BANDS qualify based on score. 11-13 would be the WILD CARD Bands, wild card bands are outside the top 10 who get the highest vis, GE, or music average. so for EXAMPLE:

1-10 based on 3 highest score --
11th- highest VIS average outside of top 10
12th- highest GE average outside of top 10
13th- highest MUSIC average outside of top 10.

now that we have the top 13, 3 bonus points are awarded to those WITHIN THE GRID with the highest 3 scores of each caption, that would shake up the seeding a little bit.


now that there are performances lined up for championships, 13 total, we take the bottom 5 (9-13) and have them do a prelims. this gives the wild card bands a chance to earn a spot in the top 10. after that small prelim, the FINAL 10 compete in the Championship Show.

i know its wordy. its simpler than it seems. its just meant as an idea mainly for some fun, so dont tear it apart thinking its actually going to happen. it wont. but it would sure make the process wayyyy more interesting!!

I think that would make things interesting. And to add to that perhaps when its all said and done we could then have all the champions in each class throughout California compete in all the circuts that there are and crown a state champion for each class. That would be interesting to see. Again just my thought as well.

It would be great if CA could have a State Marching Championship. However if you look at each of the States that have State Championships, TX, OK, AZ, IN, CO, IL, NE, ETC,you will find that ALL Schools have to agree to one set of rules. Sadly CA cannot even get the Parade Bands to have the same rules, let alone,MBOS, WBA, SCSBOA, NCBA, SCJA, Etc in field. I wish you luck, and the shame of it is, those of use who do have a state champion would love to see CA crown a Best Band.

i think any changes to a championship system would be good. the current system is very mundane.
