This year SCJA has a new format for making it to Championship. A band must qualify in their division at a regional (there are two for each class) with the top ten going to Huntington Beach on Nov. 19th. A band must also attend at least one other SCJA show.

It will be interesting to see how the rankings match up against the bands that qualify.

Unfortunately, I do not keep SCJA rankings as SCJA judging is not consistent enough to provide useful statistical data.

This is NOT to say that the judging is bad or wrong, just that it varies too much to detect reasonable statistical patterns. The standard deviations on the sample data I started to collect were enormous.

I am totally new to SCJA myself. And I have no idea how many bands are in the running for championships. I guess we will only know after both regionals are done and we start looking at scores. I DO like that the same panel will be judging both regionals for the same division. Keeps it consistent. I really like that concept.

After BOTH regionals are completed, the top 10 scoring bands are invited to Championships. We're only doing the first one, hope that extra week for the 2nd regional doesn't give other bands a chance to pass us...

Good luck everyone!

We are only performing at the first regional as well. I think we can post a high enough score to stay in the top ten without a score from 11/5. I have looked at Division 2 scores pretty intently from the last two years of SCJA championships and how the top Div 2 bands are scoring so far this year.

I would have to put North Torrance, Paramount and Orange Lutheran at the top of the Division. Don Lugo is new to this division having been in Div 4 in 2009 and Div 3 last year. With a first out score of 78.4 I think that Don Lugo will compete well with these groups.

With 10 Div 2 bands competing at the Capo Valley Regional we should have a pretty good idea of who is having a good year.

Don Lugo's theme is "The Sound of Music". What about other bands?

Mater Dei is playing "The Joy of Life" featuring Joy to the World, Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring, and Ode to Joy. Our show is finally finished without much time to clean... we shall see.

Best of luck!

After checking both Regional show line-ups, Paramount HS is not competing this year in Div 2. Anyone know what they are up to?

This takes out one of the front runners for this division.

Corona has done well in Div 1 the past couple of years. They have not been out yet this year. Maybe they will rise towards the top of Div 2.

I think they were in 3A/4A last year... Do you mean Pacifica?

Where did you see the 11/5 regional line-up?
