World of Pageantry

I have been learning to spin military style batons for the past two years for my high school band and am lurking on youtube to see some drum majors from years past and I noticed that a few of the really good baton spinners also spinned mace (like david Wang, rebecca kimn, christopher cortez)
does spinning mace help with baton or anything? or did they just spin mace just to spin it
