Okay so I thought this would be an interesting thread... sue me if I'm wrong
I have a syndrome where I WANT my equipment really bad and so I try and grab it out of the air. I usually end up smacking my hands or face on my sabre or rifle, but I really just have issues waiting for my equipment to come down to me.
What are your wierd mistakes?
Oh and I hit myself and my instructor alot... actually our whole guard abuses anything and anyone.

Uh-oh for life!

My freshman year, I hit our captain in the head with my flag. I felt like a crappy person.
I tend to bend my thumbs in odd positions, and my knees and my forehead (I hit myself in the head with the hilt of my sabre) get a lot of ouchies.

i hit myself WAY to much... usually i'll go a little while having not hit myself
then low-and-behold.. i will hit my self realllllly hard
but i usually only hit myself when
a) I'm stressed
b) I didnt get much sleep the night before
or both
i hit my dance team partner when i was a freshmen....
oh jeez... she hated my guts after that, and would point me out to all her friends when i walked by. I didnt do it on purpose... GOSH!
and i said i was sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've also hit fellow guard members
so far this winterguard season, i've hit 2
I bet a funny thing about driving a car off a cliff is, while you're in midair, you still hit those brakes! Hey, better try the emergency brake!

i hit my thumb, with my rifle, ALOT. it hurts sooo much, it feels like I bend it out of place. i've only hit one guard member that I know of and that was my sophomore year. i've also given myself a blackeye (small) and hit random places like my knees, my shins, my arms. most of the time I don't have any idea how my equipment hit me there. one of the girls on our guard has managed to cut her forehead with her sabre, rip off her nail (rifle) and then pass out and has gotten a black eye/bump on cheek from flag. we've had a girl get stitches too! let's just say the school has given my instructor a key to trainer room so she has an unlimited supply of ice.

I dropped my sabre on my forehead and it cut and gave me a scar and a unicorn bump.
Freshman year I got a black eye from a parallel and landed a double on my lips with braces. Sophomore year I sprained my wrist and my hand swelled up to double its size. Other than that just a lot of bruises and jammed fingers.
Our guard tends to be abusive... we've hit our instructor atleast twice and a couple years ago we broke our radio because a flag landed on it... hehehhehe

i was tossing a horizontal and hit myself on the head...and another time i was doing a flag double toss walk under and catch facing the other way and hit myself... not to mention with a regular toss turn...another time i was doing a barrel roll and fell so hard i think i injured my sciatica and was out for the day...of course i did the whole sprain the thumb due to the rifle injury, and the jamming of fingers...sprained my ankle from dancing....HIT my ankle with one of our tosses that i don't know how to explain
and that was from my ONE SEASON doing guard (regenesis IV; 2004)... i am traumatized for LIFE!
in addition, i've witnessed/heard fellow members from previous years do a lot of damage. one peson did some rifle toss and it landed on another person who was like 10 feet away (I'm exaggerating but you get it). another person got hit in the face when doing a rifle exchange and the rifle dropped and bounced back. and the same person who got the rifle dropped on her sprained her thumb so bad it looks like my big toe (and she refuses to get it rebroken and put back correctly till the end of season...talk about a trooper).

Do any of you have tendonitis? Most of our weapon line (if not all!) does. I'm one of the few who has yet to be “diagnosed” with it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had it!

LoL I made a BIG mistake during warmup before prelims at fresno this past weekend... i decided that as my sabre (spanish blade) was coming down UNDER ROTATED that I was going to catch it anyway... well my finger "caught" the wrath of that one... it got stuck in the inslets or holes in the hilt of my spanish blade sabre and cute THROUGH my nail ...THROUGH the skin and chopped off like the tip of my right pointer finger... everyone told me not to perform but I've never NOT performed in a winterguard show in the 7 years I've been spinning so I went out there and did my thang... pretty sure I had the best show ever! I nailed EVERYTHING! Woot!

ouch! i feel your pain man lol. this last year during field i caught this weird (but rather easy) sabre toss with two hands instead of one cause i didn't want to drop it right? bad idea. the edge of the hilt kinda landed in the corner of my nail (you know where the nail meets the skin?) and like pushed the skin off. i hate blood, and there was quite a bit of it so i nearly fainted lol, but it really wasn't that bad. and yeah, to this day i still don't have a cuticle on that part of my thumb heehee... it's all good though

You can always do it...so just shut up and do it.

Omg, boo-boos just come with the whole package of guard. I ahve done so much to myself and sadly others. I broke my nose doing a turn around toss(didn't feel to good to be black and blue for world championships), sparined my fingers numerous times... umm and like sprained everything u can think of, I do a "split toss" well thats what we call it, I throw a quad and catch it while going into the splits... well it landed on my leg on the way down and lets just say i have never felt pain like that... o what else o well we do a "hug toss" where we throw a rifle and someone runs underneath u and hugs u and u catch behind their back, its really freaky and almost hit my partner a million times. My instructor has so much faith in us and like tries out his new trciks on us and this awesome frshman on our team can do anything u ask him to seriously u tell him to do a a double turn around 7 and catch it under the leg... he will and nail it as hard as he can, he is like fantasia material . Lucky for him he has never hurt himself doing those tricks.

My captain was teaching me how to toss the flag freshman year so she got behind me and tossed it in front and told me to catch it. Well, she kinda tossed too close to me once and hit me. It hurt. She also did it someother times with her own flag and rifle. I have abused myself so bad. Name any place on my body and I have most likely hit it and had a bruise there at one point.

I have a good equipment injury story and it has nothing to do with a guard person! My sophmore year part of our guard spun didgeridoo's in the show(styx) cause...well we did. We were using them to learn how to spin rifle and one of the drummers came up and said "i can spin that" so he goes to toss a horizontal and the didgeridoo smacks him in the face! It ended up spliting his eybrow a little bit but other than that he was ok, except his pride was a little hurt. This just goes to show why drummers should stick to playing, not spinning!
