NCBA MEETING - MESSAGE from Louise Jacob

Post by Jsten05 » Fri May 06, 2005 9:33 am

For all of you who may or may not have issues with NCBA PLEASE COME TO THE JUNE MEETING! This association was created because we were sick of the good old boy club who controlled everything in northern california. Well amazing how the membership stopped coming to meetings and allowed the board to once again make it a good old boys club.

If you have a problem with NCBA then be part of the SOLUTION as opposed to the complainers who don't come to the meetings and leave it to the few of us who complain. I have been gone for the last two years, well I'm BACK! Meetings should be interesting from this point out.

NCBA has many POSITIVE things to offer us! It is OUR responsibillity to FIX any issues by attending the meetings and VOICING our opinions! The board, I believe would be willing to hand the association back over to the members as soon as the members participate as active members at the meetings!!!!!

If you want things changed then be there to change them. Don't be shy and leave it to us to fix the problem for you. There is a ME in TEAM however there is a U and I together in UNITE! Stop the bashing and get some productive writing done. Write up the bad judges so they know they are BAD! Send the tapes to Rowland so he can hear for himseelf how bad the tapes are. If I'm not winning I want to know why, and what can I do to make my group better.

STOP your complaing and STEP UP! Make a difference through your actions! Hopefully I will see you at the JUNE MEETING!

-Louise Jacob

Yeah Louise!!!!!
I completely agree!!!!!

When we listen to the tapes, criticaly analize them, then try what they say, we get better. When we quit second guessing their judgement, sucked it up and listened to what we could do better the scores reflected it.

I not saying the judging is perfect, I'm not saying there are no problems, I'm not saying there is no room for improvement.

There are flaws to every system.

Think about how to fix things. At the meeting don't be afraid to speek your peace. If you can't go or are to shy to talk write it down and give it to them.
I have been to many meetings over the last several years where no guard instructors were there or didn't speak up with any concerns.
Be carefull to figure out if you are upset/dissapointed because you did not get the placing you wanted or if you don't understand the judging or if there is a serious problem with the scoring and evaluation.

Go to the meeting, figure out the system, ask the judges questions, go to the judges clinics. Most times when a judge makes a weird tape you can call them and ask for clarification. The band director and any instructor has the phone numbers if they are members.

Then you will understand how they are making decisions and evaluating the groups in every area.

NCBA Meeting...

Post by MMills » Sun May 08, 2005 11:07 am

I agree with Louise and you can bet that I will be at that meeting with her! There are so many changes and/or corrections that need to be made with NCBA as an organization to turn it back into the educational experience that it used to be - and that it needs to be. There are many postive things that can be offered by NCBA, but the membership does need to be at the meeting and speak up. If the Executive Board doesn't hear anything from us, then they will keep doing things the way they are being done now.

Also, please don't be afraid to write a judge up and send it in. I know from talking to many band directors and instructors, that there are several judges that we all have issues with regarding scores, placements and quality of thier tapes. But it does no good if me and very few others are the only ones sending letters to Rowland. It is the only way that we are going to have the possiblilty of weeding these judges out that have gotten to comfortable with thier role that they think that they don't have to follow the criteria like the other ones OR getting them retrained on what they are judging. They need to remember that just because you are a good equipment judge, it doen't make you a good movement or GE judge and vice versa. Speaking personally as a judge, there are always ways to improve your comments on the tapes and broaden your knowledge in the sport of colorguard.

Please attend the meeting if you want to see any changes! I look forward to seeing you there.
