Guard and Piercings

Post by MHS_Guard_Senior » Sun Jan 11, 2004 9:56 pm

Starting the new season, our AA guard is currently 14; over half of which have their belly buttons pierced. And yes, our guys have it done. A lot of us also have our ears pierced, and the top of the ear. We're all working on keeping jewelry in for performances, if we all get the same design. It's fun to cordinate jewelry within a guard. Does anyone elses guard deal with the same type of issues? :?:

We're not allowed to show any piercings.

Yeah we don't wear jewelry either. Except in parade. And for that we wear big gold plastic circles about the size of a penny with smaller red circles on top. They have a small hole on top of the circle for an earring to go through and we all wear really small studs.

I put my necklace in my sports bra. Can't perform without it!

if you cant take out any piercings we have to cover it with a bandaid. no jewlery. im fine with it i mean its all about uniformity and unless your whole guard has the same peircings then i think that you should stay away from the jewlery thing .... besides what do you do if in a show your flag gets caught on an earing and it rips out. i mean that gonna hurt :x

During parade we are NOT allowed to have any reminants of jewelry on our body. Some people however, continue to do so, so the option of puttin bandaids over their piercings is presented. During winter... our instructors usually dont care but we can't have big ole chunky earings or anything... they prefer the subtle, feminine approach. I Just got my nose pierced though and I'm excited to show it off!!!

we're allowed to wear subtle earrings and facial jewelry.. we strongly dislike bellybutton peircings because much of the jewelry hangs down and can be hit or pulled on while performing.

once during a performance i put my bracelet in my mouth because i just smile the entire time lol its dangerous b/c u can choke... so i don't recomend it

when i marched at galt, all visable jewelry was removed for the performance...period. even if the piercing was new, you had to hand it over to a parent or something to hold during the show, then u could put it back in after we got out of the performance gym or area... we tried the band-aid thing (for a field show) and decided that we were going to maintain the original rule...i think its just better to say no to all of it, rather than creating exceptions...but i never had to worry about it (i had no piercings)...so i may be...unsympathetic to those that do...lol!

marching we couldnt wear anything and our old bd wouldnt let us do the bandaid thing but during winter this year we were encouraged to wear cute little earing and i always wore the necklace my boyfriend gave me for chrismas and tucked it under my uniform

I totally agree with ghs_alum! When I was a Student Advisor for Color Guard and Drill Team! I wouldnt allow them to wear any kind of jewelry at all. The only time they were allow was for parades.
