Hey guardies! I've been in guard for one semester of field and one semester of winterguard... and this field season I'm captain of the entire guard with NO instructor! I'm really freaked out and I don't know what to do. It seems my guard finds me as more of a friend figure then as an authoritive figure, plus I like to give breaks lol
Can anyone give me some advice to make the guard good this year?
calling all captains!!

Well, I was captain of the Chino Colorguard this past year and I would like to help you. Since you said that your the guard sees you as a friend type well, that's okay because that's how the guard stays united, but you also need to say," okay guys, I know it's fun to talk and joke around, but we need to get serious now if we want to get good and start winning shows." If people start getting all weird, then you need to have a guard meeting and explain to them that you really need them to support you as being the authorative figure. You are captain for a reason and even though you guys have no instructor you want to look like you do when you are out there competing. So them supporting you will really help you guys get good. If you need anymore advice don't hesistate to ask and I'll try to help! Good luck!

I was a captain last year also but even though we had an instructor, things were tough. the color guard girls were unruly and it wasn't until the end we really bonded. i think that cost us a championship spot but either way i think unity is key.
