So, after seeing shows with lights, with TV screens, TV screens flashing lights, drums with lights, long poems being read, ballet dancers, and dancing to 80's POP, what is everyone's take on the direction of winter percussion......?

Like anything else after rule changes...it will take some years for it to be all figured out. This last weekend looked like a lot of groups added some lights a few weeks ago...some sounded like they spent too much time on lights the last few weeks...and very few "pulled it off" well.
Just my opinion...
I was more irritated with it than anything else. Because of the reasons listed above. Maybe I'm oldschool...but music should always remain the focus. And this year I felt like it took away from program excellence.

I thought some groups used the new "lighting" option to great effect (Ayala HS), and some went a little overboard (Rhythm X?). Of course, the groups that won PSW (Chino Hills HS) and PIW (RCC) did not have a single "light" in their show. Just clean beats, clean feets and a clear and understandable show concept. At the end of the day, it's not rocket science, it's just drums in a gym. So let's all just play clean! Just my humble opinion, of course.
