Finals on the Big Screen??
So does anyone know why won't they show finals? I mean they show quarter-finals, but Why wouldn't they show Final also? I wouldn't mind paying Cheap seat prices like you would at finals and watch it in the theatre.. Think how lucrative this would be for DCI to get more people interested in Drum Corps especially since Finals will be in Indy for the next 10 years. Honestly with the way the economy is and also factor in gas prices I am not in the position to get to finals in the next 5 years or so. Just a thought...What do you people think?
the choices you have made will ultimatley affect and shape who you are and will be......

My guess:
Showing quarterfinals alone results in the greatest profit made.
Showing finals would take away from the money made normally made in finals because people do make a trip to go watch.
Also, showing a three day event that goes into the weekend when new releases come out would probably cost more than the extra profit that would usually be made.
As much as I would like it to happen, it's not going to happen.

You make it sound like DCI shouldn't be concerned. Money is always the bottom line in anything where it is involved. No organization can run ANY activity without it.vore wrote:DCI... $Money is the bottom line.
By the way, would you like to see their tax return?

It's only from FY 2006, the most recent available on that site.
Did you know that the tax returns of all non-profit organizations are public record?

No, I did not make it sound that way... I was only pointing out to the "young 'ins" that money makes the world go around for all organizations including DCI.Chapagne wrote:You make it sound like DCI shouldn't be concerned. As to non-profit organizations, tax laws, and public records... I have been involved with organizing, running, or helping non-profit organizations since 1963. Been there... and still doing that...
Me thinks you are taking this way too serious...

Ah...the dangers of the internet.
Not really, I just didn't glean your whole meaning from your post.vore wrote:I was only pointing out to the "young 'ins" that money makes the world go around for all organizations including DCI.

I posted the link to their tax records because I find that sort of thing interesting...thought others might too.

Non-Profit experts
Non-profits are interesting things- How do you go about setting these confusing things up and do you really have to go to all that trouble with tax id's and stuff?
They assign numbers to put on the organizations literature and things right? So everyone should include that in mailings, on their websites and fund raising?
Can the groups still pay people to work or does everyone have to be a free volunteer to be non-prof?
Do you need lawyers to do all the work or can a group figure it out on their own?
Appreciate any shared knowledge
Thanks

That looks like a good website - thanks - it sounds like you have a wealth of experience with these things - anything to look out for that you have learned from 30 years of experience setting these things up? These forums are great for sharing information and learning from others experience and mistakes. Are you connected to the Placentia Community Band and setting that up as a non-profit? I hear it is quite a band!

Corps could save a lot of money if they didn't have to pay their staffArmyBrat22 wrote: Can the groups still pay people to work or does everyone have to be a free volunteer to be non-prof?
