DCI Resignations

Post by Hostrauser » Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:23 pm

I'll try to keep a running list going. Feel free to add/correct.

2008 Post-Finals DCI Resignations/Staff Changes
Tom Aungst - The Cadets battery arranger, percussion caption head
Neil Larrivee - The Cadets front ensemble arranger
Mike McIntosh - Bluecoats music coordinator and battery arranger
Jeff Pearson - Santa Clara Vanguard corps director
Eric Sabach - Blue Stars corps director
Adam Sage - Phantom Regiment color guard caption head
Richard Saucedo - Cavaliers brass arranger
Jennifer Leseth - Carolina Crown color guard caption head

I know staff changes occur every year, but, I mean, what the hell people?!

I will admit it appears "heavier" than previous years. My biggest surprise was Sabach and Saucedo. I guess Pearson ranks up there too in the surrrrrrrrrrprise dept. But Sabach really should get the credit for doing what had to be done to pull Blue Stars out of near obscurity right back into finals...and not by just a hair. I mean...BAM!

And Saucedo. WOW. There's just nothing to say about that than WOW! Quite surprised.

BUT...as I've said before...it used to befuddle me but now I'm getting more used to it. The shifting around of talent, both instructional and performers...it's sort of like what?

That's right.

MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS!!!!

There is no more loyalty to an organization. Although I can't speak for each staff move every year in drum corps, but you can't discount the fact if you see one name leave one corps and pops up at another (Rosander....Fiedler....to name just two), that money didn't play a role in the decision. You think that a corps couldn't wave a fistful of money and say "Come follow me..." to someone who you usually equate with an organization. I can only name a few people, like Wayne Downey or Jay Murphy, that are "branded" in such a way that I don't think they'd ever BAIL or be let go from the Devils, but they certainly wouldn't (and don't) say no to other corps wanting them to work for them.

While I was director of Phantom Regiment, Jay Murphy would get an annual call from us, asking to consider coming to lovely Rockford.

He'd always say - quite politely, mind you - "no". He eventually turned us on to Jamey Thompson, thus getting himself off the hook and giving Regiment a great drill designer.

I can now say that I am glad Jay has stayed put in Concord, as I currently spend a reasonable amount of time volunteering with Blue Devils, and he has become one of my favorite BD staffers to hang with when out on tour.

Ryan... Eric Sabach had a hand in the Blue Stars success this year, but there are other people who I think really deserve the credit you are bestowing on him. The "near obscurity" to 14th place was long before Eric was hired. The 2008 teaching staff was pretty much hired before Eric too. Take a look at the Blue Stars BoD. Mostly long term hard working local alumni busting their tails to do what needs to be done... lead by Brad Furlano (Blue Stars Executive Director). He's the unsung hero of their two years in 14th and then the corps return to finals. And he's also a decent guy!
