Shenandoah by Frank Ticheli is a gorgeous piece of music. You need a good French Horn and Euphonium player to play it.

As far as wind ensemble music goes, I would either have to say An American Elegy or October.

In my opinon out off all the music i have played so far the one that gives me goosebumps everytime i listen and play would be Moscow 1941 by Brian Balmages (<---i think i spelled that wrong lolXD). yes i know its a easy song.

I tend to like pieces that are really horrifying. Ralph Hultgren wrote a piece I believe is called Masada that made me cry while I was sight-reading it with a group. The last movement of Shostokovich's 8th Symphony and Daniel Bukvich's Symphony No. 1 Dresden are both really "wonderful" depictions of death and destruction.

And then there's the many hear-the-voice-of-God Alfred Reed pieces, like Praise Jerusalem and Russian Christmas Music.

However, I must say Barber's Adagio is hands down my favorite.

Perthshire Majesty by Sam Hazo. Beautiful little Scottish piece. The sorprano sax at the beginning is dead awesome!

i love those pieces that just tug at your insides. October and Sleep by eric whitacre are definitely gorgeous pieces. i got to play sleep at all state this year under Dr. Mallory Thompson, and i wont forget during a run through of Sleep, she started to cry hard at the high point in the song, but she kept conducting and it was just amazing. For a jazz ensemble, Last Season by Maria Schneider leaves me speechless, pretty much all of her music does you guys should check her out

"Pacem: A Hymn for Peace" by Robert Spittal is quite beautiful, I remember we played it as our senior song for graduation.

The most beautiful piece that I've played is "Contre Qui, Rose" it's a choral piece but still sounds amazing for concert groups!

I agree! Really there's a few Camphouse pieces that'll do it for me though. I also really like "Watchman, Tell Us of the Night." So beautiful.

"The Echo Never Fades" is also really pretty.

I don't think I can name just one piece now that I'm thinking about it!

There are so many answers to this--but the one song that I think may qualify for the most beautiful isn't instrumental strangely enough...and it wasn't done by a marching band or drum corps...gee, go figure...getting soft in my old age...this is "There Will Be Rest" by Ticheli.

Perhaps not the BEST rendition as I heard it first by Dr. Vance Wolverton and the University Singers at CSUF do it, as well as the Pacific Chorale...but you'll get the idea.
