The Scouts are trying to fix their poor staff decisions of this past year...

Re: Jim Mason and Donnie Van Doren joining Madison Scouts
This is a pretty good step.
For all the youngsters out there: Jim Mason is the former corps director of Star of Indiana, and came up with the idea for Blast! His MEG (Mason Entertainment Group) consists of big name talent, including Donnie Van Doren and Jim Prime (Star of Indiana's former brass arranger).
Donnie Van Doren is one of the premier brass instructors in the game. He marched with The Cadets, came over to Star of Indiana, helped get Blast up and running, returned to The Cadets in the early 2000s, then went to Carolina Crown. He's also been consulting on the Blue Stars horn line. You've seen what Carolina Crown and the Blue Stars have done the past few years. Believe me when I say that DVD was a big part of Crown building that incredible horn sound they had this summer (Jim Prime has also been consulting for Crown).
The big discussion on DCP is how much this decision will affect Crown. Will DVD split his time between the two corps or go wholly Madison? There's also a rumor going around that Jim Prime will return and be Madison's new brass arranger. Supposedly there's another big staff announcement in store for Scouts' fans.

I am still stuck in the mind set of, "What were they thinking this past year?"
This positive change of direction for Madison is also needed by a few other corps this year, or they too will be stuck under the fermata of mediocrity.

Those of you who have been wishing for Star of Indiana to come back are getting your wish, sort of: most of Star's old staff is coming back as the new staff of the Madison Scouts.

Wow. I'll go ahead and predict right now that Madison will make finals next year. And in 2011, watch out, maybe back in the Top 6. There's a bigger off-season buzz about Madison right now than any corps I can remember in a long time.

With the right talent, Madison will most definitely be in the hunt for their first championship in over 20 years.

Well, I know the Scouts (like the Blue Stars) are going to be mainly operating out of Indiana now, which is much more of a HS marching band hot bed. The Scouts also have tryouts scheduled for Texas and a few other places across the country, so they're definitely working at that.

What in the name of the New York Yankees is going on here? Madison is just going out and getting whoever they want. Amazing.
