Class C
01:33 PM P19 Don Antonio Lugo HS (Chino)
01:37 PM P20 Gladstone HS (Covina)
01:42 PM P21 John Glenn HS (Norwalk)
01:46 PM P22 Santiago HS (Corona)
01:51 PM P23 Arroyo HS (El Monte)
01:55 PM P24 Montebello HS

 I don't remember Montebello ever being in Class C at this band review. I know they'll bounce back though. They really belong in class A.

Overall, the lineup itself looks great! A very competitive band review. I look forward to seeing all these bands' performances.

This is a great match-up.

12:39 PM P09 Bernardo Yorba MS (Yorba Linda)
12:43 PM P10 Alvarado IS (Rowland Heights)
12:48 PM P11 First Avenue MS (Arcadia)

Can't wait to see how the whole middle school divisions turn out.

Good luck to everyone that day! Luis, I have a feeling Montebello will be back up by the time Arcadia BR comes around. I'm an Oiler fan too.

I was shocked also but seeing how they've ranked in the past few years and with the classification system that Dennis works hard with....well....I am sure you can figure out where they go.

Every year I watch these guys closely and see how they go between classes keeping in mind that they, at one point in time were set up in class AA with Arcadia - But that was when the classification system was set up based on Enrollment of the school or something to that effect.

Montebello, in my time of watching parade bands has always been a top band in my book. Partly because of the Showmanship and partly because of the Patriotic Fanfare- I don't know....They ALWAYS keep me impressed.

I know they'll bounce back. I'm still surprised though, especially since they were in the top 10 last year at this band review. Last year's results:

11/06/2010 - 40th Annual Chino Invitational Band Review
96.25 - Riverside King HS
95.60 - Arcadia HS
94.60 - Diamond Bar HS
94.10 - El Dorado HS
93.50 - Glendora HS
93.40 - Arlington HS
92.80 - Esperanza HS
92.70 - Diamond Ranch HS
92.70 - Loara HS

92.45 - Montebello HS

Sorry, just making an observation

Also, I noticed the middle schools are broken down in 3 divisions; probably a 1st for this band review and yes Bryan, looks pretty competitive in the MS divisions as well.

I have a feeling Montebello will be in AA at Arcadia this year (since they scored high enough at last year's BR)....we'll have to wait and see for when that lineup appears.

Looks like it's going to be a pretty loooong day for our friend Dennis :)

If what I overheard is correct, this will be Dennis' 41st year of doing the Chino Tournament

I wish that bands from the San Diego area still went to Chino.

No point with Mira Mesa on the same day. The time and transportation savings are enormous.

Classification for the Chino Band Review is based on the seasonal ranking not the event ranking. We are hosting half of the top 25 SCSBOA parade bands and more middle school bands than I have seen at any one event since the Seal Beach Band Review back in the 1970s.

And Luis, the looooong days have already begun.

I think it is interesting that almost all of the night show bands also march in the parade while only 4 of the morning show bands are in the parade.

My philosophy has always been - even with a small band you can be successful in parades. Learn the music and marching basics first, then expand into field show marching/competing.

Is the sun up at 8:15am?

Actually there are six bands in the AM FST that are also in the Band Review -

El Rancho HS
Don Antonio Lugo HS
Rubidoux HS
Gladstone HS
Canyon Springs HS
Arlington HS

Redlands East Valley HS had initially planned to march in the Band Review but had to withdraw from that portion of the event. :-( They will still be in the PM FST, though.

I just added two pdf files to the original post -

2011 Chino Invitational Venue Map
2011 Chino Invitational Food Menu and Food Court Diagram

Just as we planned, we scheduled rain for today to wash off the streets, then clear weather for tomorrow for the event, then rain on Sunday to wash off the streets again. :rotf:

Seriously though, the weather report is for a high temperature of 63° F and a low temperature of 39° F, so be sure to dress warmly for the parade and even more warmly for the morning and evening field show tournaments. Blankets would be in order for the stadium!

Also, a limited number of souvenir pins will be available for purchase inside the stadium as well as souvenir programs ($5).

See you tomorrow!

Sorry everyone, but I'm exhausted, but I promise to post all the results by tomorrow afternoon. There were a lot of spectacular performances today by some of SoCal's best bands. Thanks to all the participating groups for making this day such a success! I hope you enjoyed it because I know i did!
