Poway Sweepstakes Awards

Post by usd_chem_prof » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:15 pm

At the Poway Invitational Field Tournament (PIFT), we had chosen to do one set of Sweepstakes Awards at the end of the evening for the full event. There was a miscommunication somewhere along the line, and the judges only considered the evening bands (4A-6A) for Sweepstakes Awards. These awards will remain in place as the winning bands (San Marcos, Rancho Bernardo, and Mt. Carmel) all competed at the highest level in a very close competition.

However, the high score and Sweepstakes Awards for the overall tournament in Percussion (score 87.5) and Auxiliary (score 74.0) go to Aliso Niguel High School. As co-chair of PIFT, I traveled this morning with Richard Stegman (chair of PIFT) and John Vorwald (head judge at PIFT) to Aliso Niguel HIgh School to present the appropriate trophies to these deserving units. Please joining me in congratulating these units for their outstanding performances.

I would like to wish Aliso Niguel the best of luck in hosting their first tournament (MBOS) this weekend, and we at Poway look forward to seeing you at the MBOS Championships.

Regards,
Jim Bolender

A very nice and "classy" thing to do. The Emerald Brigade and Boosters of Poway HS always do the right thing. Isn't is nice to see the band community doing the right things?

Yes, it was a very exciting day at Aliso. Mr. John Vorwald and the two parents that are the chairpersons for the Poway Tournament, made a trip to our rehearsal today.

They came and made the presentation to my students with our principal and several photographers present.

It was a VERY classy and professional move on both the Poway folks and SCSBOA.

My students and I are very humbled and grateful for this recognition.

GO ALISO!

We are hoping for the Saturday before Mt. Carmel's show again (second to last Saturday of October, 10/20). It will be our 20th anniversary tournament, so we are hoping to do something special with it. Mark it on your calendar!

Thank you all for the kind words. Our organizing committee was touched when we shared the comments with them.

Jim
