I watched both the parade and field show and thank everyone, especially the Arcadia High students, boosters, and staff, for putting on such a wonderful event and keeping the spirit up even in the rain!!

Allow me to say Arroyo really surprised me during the field show! WOW! I've never really heard them or seen them perform and was blown away!

Thanks; guess it's too much to ask SCSBOA to post stuff online in an expeditious manner...

The "posting person" was working at a tournament all day Saturday and did not get home until after midnight! PLUS - he has to wait until the results are sent to him from the event head judge. This usually takes a minimum of 24 - 48 hours!

Sorry if I sound a bit "rude!" I'm tired of folks not having a little patience.

And what exactly do you consider an expeditious manner? I finished posting the results of the Band Review about 4:15 PM on Saturday, The last band didn't step off until 12:24 PM. The scores still needed to be entered into the recap program, then verified and checked for errors before they were printed, then copied, then distributed to the directors for a last chance to catch any errors. After that the awards ceremony starts. The resulting scores are not supposed to be made public until they are announced at the awards ceremony, contrary to the notion of "scooping" the information to the waiting competitors, and ruining the effect of hearing the results for the first time along with all the other competitors. There is already a great deal of concern about overzealous staff members leaking the scores/results before the awards announcements. 4:15 PM is about as expeditious as possible.

I posted the Field Tournament results as soon as possible after driving home (and I live close by). The Field Tournament Awards Ceremony was scheduled to start at 8:45 PM. I purposely waited until 10:15 PM to post the Field Results to make sure that the awards ceremony was concluded before making the scores public on the internet. Admittedly I neglected to include the high Visual Performance and High General Effect scores/awards. It was my oversight and JC posted those results at 10:23 AM.

There was a time not that long ago when the Long Beach All-Western Band Review didn't begin the awards ceremony until 4-5 hours after the competition concluded. Score detail and recaps weren't distributed until the following sping (as in April/May of the following year). Almost all competitions these days distribute recaps/score details prior to the start of the awards ceremony. It doesn't get much more expeditious than that. There has been serious discussion about the timing of the release of the score details with some people suggesting that detail not be released, even to the competitors, until AFTER the awards are concluded. Far too many directors and staff members feel a need to "scoop" the announcements by texting or otherwise sharing scores publicly before the awards are announced. There is a balance needed and it is possible to reveal results TOO early. Count your blessings. The Presidential Election in 2000 weren't finalized for more than a month after the polls closed and those results are still considered controversial and suspect.

Perhaps you can show us an example of where you posted that quantity of information to that degree of accuracy in a shorter period of time.... or better yet, perhaps you can keep your snide remarks to yourself instead of posting them in a public forum. That would be my suggestion.

Dennis is, by far, the most expeditious SCSBOA official EVER!!!! Thank you Dennis! Dennis always tries to post the results the day of the event or at the lastest the next morning. Bravo!

I totally agree that the results should NEVER be released before the awards ceremony. I remember, when working at the All-Western, how exciting the awards ceremony became as the evening progressed. To take that excitment away from the student's experience would be tragic in my opinion. It's part of the reward for all the hard work and dedication.

Here, here! Without Dennis, the results wouldn't have been posted until well after 6pm, or maybe even after the field tournament, as I didn't get home from the school until that time. Imagine how much more whining there would've been if folks had to wait that long for the scores!

Thank you to all of this year's bands and their directors who braved the elements Saturday and came out to the band review and field tournament despite the less than optimal weather conditions!

We also want to thank all the students, staff, and parents for your understanding in dealing with the limited space in the gym for the awards ceremony, we couldn't have made it happen without your cooperation and support.

Congratulations to all the bands on your excellent performances, and a very special congratulations to the Band Review Sweepstakes Champion, Riverside King HS, and the Field Tournament and Combined Grand Champion Rancho Bernardo HS!

We hope to see you all again next year as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Arcadia Festival of Bands on Saturday, November 16, 2013!

Here's a recap complete with ordinal rankings from Saturday's results.

Looking at Luis's recordings, this has got to be one of the strongest Arcadia's we've seen for some time now. Congratulations to all the young men and women that marched Saturday, and their directors and instructors on a fantastic job well done! Every single band brought their A game and should be proud of the way they performed, especially given the rain!

Also, a very special congratulations to Riverside King on coming out on top of a deep field of some phenomenal bands!
