Hi all! It's been awhile since I have posted... EXTREMLY busy with preperations for fall.
Which leads me to the thread topic, how are you all doing? With the season starting, well, this weekend, right? Are you excited, nervous, ready to kill your insturctors, BD, and or your students, or give them a big hug and take the street/field?
I am at the pulling my hair out by the roots stage, but that's not unusual!

Perpetually behind...
I have a number of newbies that came into the group AFTER band camp, so that's a challenge. We only compete in parade, but we are also trying to put a field show together for homecoming in about a month. The parade stuff is coming along slow, but it's about half way done.
Our first review is Cupertino TOB. Hopefully I will have more of a show by then.
With field show, rallies, parade, continued equipment and movement training, fundraising, grade checks, homework etc. no one has a life right now.
Our kids here are VERY challenged. They weren't nearly as busy last year, considering they did nothing on the field and only attended ONE fall parade competition ( thanks a lot for killing the season, you know who you are!)
I can't wait for winter, maybe I can take a break (YEAH, RIGHT!).

Our colorguard is working pretty hard from what I've seen. We're only working with about 13 kids (8 on shields, 5 on flags), so I'm really hoping they give it their absolute all. We've always lacked a strong colorguard, so I'm hoping that'll change as the weeks go by.

This is my first attempt at TEACHING field show. And working with a guard of 8 over the summer, and having a class roster of 26... YIKES! NO time, no life is right! Between homework, grade checks, drill rehearsals and just about everything else in between, I am suprised I am not bald yet! Key word, YET!
I am having a whole lot of fun though, and well, my students are nothing if enthusiastic about guard.
Good luck guys. This season should be interesting!
P.S- Any one heard from PantherBand? I am wondering how his new instructing job is going??

hey i'm here! so i'm actually teaching at san mateo now, not dover like thought before! I LOVE IT! oh man the kids are so amazing, and practically the entire guard is brand new and they're all learning so fast! Since it's so far away I only come out about once a week and do the choreography, and the other instructor, (who is amazing) does all of the morning practices and many things behind the scenes too. I wish i could make it out there every morning but could you imagine?? from benicia to san mateo without traffic is an hour, so with morning traffic i'd never get to school!
we'll be at petaluma so watch out for us! it's our only parade competition but then we do parades in san francisco and a small field show, and then it's time for WINTERGUARD! woohoo!

Hey man! So you'll be at Petaluma with San Mateo, eh? Maybe I'll see you there. But Franklin's one of the first HS's to compete (I think we're the third HS in order), but who knows. Maybe you can just yell "UNTER DER ADMIRALS FLAGGE~~~" at us while we're in competition if you get there early. ;p But best of luck to you and San Mateo (off topic: I remember last year I saw some cute girls from the San Mateo band lol).

Man I really wish that I could come home and watch comps. Im stuck in the middle of no where and the only "band" around here isnt a band (anyone whos actually seen the MLJ's *marching lumberjacks* knows what Im talking about). I wish you all the best of luck and make sure you give me a play by play recap of what happened (take video and send it up here if you'd like...because I would love you forever if you did

) and to all my fellow armijo-ins I love you guys like crazy and I wish I could be there to see you (I might be able to make it to TOC) so go out there and rock my socks like lego blocks!

Hey guys, heard everyone did pretty well at Petaluma. I hear Armijo is heating things up, and that San Mateo looked really good. Since I am doing field this year, I won't get to see you guys, but good luck to every one! Our first show is next weekend in Del Oro! (Might be able to sneak a peak at their gym for WG Champs! )

I had a chance to see all of Petaluma. Saw some really interesting things but I thought all of the visual programs were suffering a bit from "nerves". More drops and stuff than I was expecting.
San Mateo is definately coming up. The Armijo visual will be extremely nice when the group can perform at that level. Benicia is very clean for early. A lot of smaller guards this year was a bit of a surprise. Was a little disappointed in the other band from Fairfield...the visual program there is just not like it used to be. But all in all everyone did a good job to represent their schools.
Going to Cupertino this weekend and excited to see a bunch of other folks.

Well, I THOUGHT I was ready for TOB this weekend, but the whole kit and kaboodle blew up in my face yesterday.
My flag captain is taking SATs on Saturday (I knew that about a month in advance and just planned on marching a hole). Well, turns out another of my star flaggies decided that homework wasn't her thing, and she pulled straight D's for the quarter. Needless to say, she's out. Another of my senior flaggies has been sick and has just started back rehearsing. So...she's a little rusty, to say the least. My ID kids have not been making the progress they should have, so they are behind. I've already staged everything, so I either restage, march the holes, or move some kids around. I have a couple of alternates, but the reason why they are alternates...well, if I could have put them on the line, I would have already.
When you have a small guard, this isn't a good thing. One person missing is bad enough, but losing two for this show, plus the other stuff...
I guess it's time to just suck it up and deal with it. But WHY is it ALWAYS the first comp?
I'm getting too old for this...

Hey...thanks for agreeing with me. Been a while since anyone agreed with me. LOL
Just kidding. All groups are off to a good start but just a few surprises at Petaluma. I can't wait to see Golden Valley at Cupertino this Saturday. Should be exciting. Greg always does a great job.
