So You Like Parade Marching

Post by JLGORMAN » Fri Feb 17, 2012 1:26 pm

I found this article in todays USA Today concerning Bands Marching in the Numerous Parades at Mardi Gras Time in New Orleans.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/ ... g-bands/53:

This is definitely not SCSBOA or NCBA Competition. However I did find it interesting that the Band From St. Augustine HS is going to march in 11 parades over 10 days, racking up over 50 miles of marching. Also found it interesting that the Kewes have to have at least 7 Bands in Each Parade. Back in the 80's they had the Greatest Bands of Dixie Contest here. Also note that they pay the Bands to come and March.

FYI: St. Augustine did not compete for any ratings in the LMEA Marching Contest. I would think that based on their sound, that was probably a sensible thing to do.

That's funny, just today I was talking to someone who used to teach in California, and now teaches in New Orleans. The schools there get the week of Mardi Gras off, because the school buses cannot get around to due to the many parades.
