Guys on the guard

Post by BakaNeko » Tue Nov 18, 2003 5:54 pm

:wav: Hey, just out of random curiosity... :?: Do you have guys in your colorguard? We have three on ours (leigh).
:wav: I smile because I have no idea what's going on.

Nope, I don't think guys are allowed to, or just none are interested.

at Woodbridge, we only have one guy on our Guard. He's a first year Senior, and is only on for WinterGuard because he plays Baritone in the band. WHS has never had a guy on the Guard before. Hmmmmmm.... I guess he'll determine whether or not we ever have another one.

last year we had guys in our guard for our tango show! It was so much fun! There was a lot of guard drama though between A guard and B guard, partially due to the fact that the guys were automatically in A guard. Today we were told that they need 5 guys again for A guard, and i'm soooo excited! Guard is so much fun, and i wish i could do it normally (take the class, march street) but i can't. Winter is the best season ever! Woot!

we dont have any guys in our guard and i'm afraid we never will. guy see color guard (in my school) as way more girly than cheerleading and as they would never try out for cheerleading, why guard? we try very hard to get guys but the only ones that will do it are ones that like girls in guard and there are only 2 desperate enough and my instructor wont let guys in unless there are like 7. she doesn't just want one or two or three....if that's the case, she rather just deal w/ girls!

Guys on guard

Post by guardlady » Tue Nov 18, 2003 11:18 pm

I'm an instructor and have found that guys for most part will do guard if you establish that they won't have to do anythine "girlie". I have also found that most guys are either extremely talented and pick it up right away or they really struggle with it.

I currently has one, that has the heart but not the coordination. He can spin and toss, but forget moving. He has been getting better with lots of work, but still no combo of flag/movement. UGGH!

I have always been open to having guys on my teams. They just have to be willing to work as hard as the rest of the team. No free rides just because they are a guy.

More guys in the Leigh Guard!

Post by Miss A » Wed Nov 19, 2003 4:21 pm

Hi all, Miss A here. Look out, there are 7 guys on the guard at Price and 5 of them will be coming your way next year. We have more that are ready for tryouts in the spring too! It helps that we have a guy instructor who doesn't do too much "pretty-pretty" stuff. Fortunately Jason doesn't either so Tyler, Ethan and Seagull made the adjustment pretty well. Look for a smoken' guard at Price this year, and hopefully more guys in the years to come.

although i don't recall ever hearing about guys being on our colorgaurd ever, there are quite a few of the band members that would like to be if they werent in band, and can actually spin rifles, etc.

There are 10 guys in my guard. I love them!!! They are so funny and talented! I have a question though...do you think having guys on a guard helps to get points. I have always wondered that. My friends and I have this theory that if you are a guy you might have an easier time making a guard than if you were a girl. But we could be wrong. RifleDiva86...are you Jill???
