Job Title: Band/Music Director

Damien High School is seeking an experienced, creative, innovative Director of the Spartan Regiment and Music programs to join the staff. If you are a musician and have experience at motivating, training and supervising high school students in a band performance program, you are invited to send your resume to hemenway@damien-hs.edu

Damien High School, www.damien-hs.edu, promotes the intellectual, physical and spiritual development of its students through instruction, fellowship and prayer. Inspired by the exemplary commitment of St. Damien, faculty and staff work with parents to prepare young men for the demands of college and the challenges of adulthood.

Working closely with school’s Administration and Activities Directors the Director of the Spartan Regiment is responsible for leading a program of music performance for halftime shows at football games, assorted parades and field show competitions. The spring program includes a basketball game pep band, indoor drum line competitions as well as Jazz Band performances.

Members of the Spartan Regiment and Jazz Band come from Damien High School and our sister schools St. Lucy’s and Pomona Catholic. Rehearsals are primarily after school although certain specialty courses are taught to Damien students during the school day. The program also includes overseeing the school liturgical music program for ten school wide liturgies each year.

The best candidate will have a love of performance music and a strong desire to share that passion with current high school students in a formal program of performances. A budget for hiring staff to coach various section leaders and field shows is available.

There is currently a five period a day teaching position available although this class load is annually dependent upon student sign-ups for courses.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • At least 3 years of experience in high school music programs
  • Demonstrated success as a teacher
  • Great passion, energy and strong communication skills that can be focused on promoting the Damien Music program.
