Shouldn't the grid be up by now? I can't find it on their site. Anyone know when or where to find it?

I just heard this morning, after posting a similar thought on the Bookface, that The Grid will not be published this year. The Head Judges will have it, but it won’t be made public.

I then spent my prep period making my own (for 1A, anyway). SCSBOA STILL posts every recap publicly and has posted a list of every championship applicant. The rest was about 40 minutes of obsessive nerd-work and a thorough flexing of my Excel skill.

I have heard from a judge that SCSBOA will not be posting the GRID for "a while," whatever that means. That may mean they will post it after the last show of the fall, when the totals have been tabulated and the results are in. We'll have to wait and see! Keep everybody guessing...

Did I miss something? Was there controversy? Maybe just time consuming. I could only imagine. Ok thanks for letting me know.

I think it’s more a response to directors trying to game the system. Maybe?

Game the system??? Either your band scores well or it doesn't! The only "gaming of the system" that anyone can do is maybe sign up to compete in an extra late season competition to try get a better score to raise the average of your top three scores. But that takes money for entry fees and buses... and telling your parents their kids won't be home to do homework that night.

Besides... it wouldn't be hard to take the recaps, or the results posted on our scores page, to figure out where your band places within your competitive class. Simple math....

Hadn't heard anything about this, though it would be nice if they would post something about it on the website if there is no plan to run a grid for some reason. Can't imagine there is any manner of gaming the system that has anything to do with the grid itself. Even if you try to get that last minute show in, by the time it gets to the point where you know you might be "close" but want that extra push....what shows would even have openings?

Had already been tracking band's highest score in 1A, guess I'll end up putting together a full 3 score grid now...unless Daniel wants to paste his diligent work into a Google Sheet and share...

Is there someplace to find the reasoning behind the thought of holding the GRID until later? Maybe I missed an email or post........

I'm in the same boat Joel, I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about this. Admittedly I'm not always great at readying thoroughly through the scsboa newsletters, but I did just check through the field adjudication segment in the most recent one and didn't see anything.

Guess I'll just have to update mine each day. It's ok, used to make a copy of the official one so I could reorganize it by 2 scores instead of 3 (more accurate portrayal early season) or to add extra calculations for point spreads between highest and lowest 3 etc.

It's done quite frequently. Those who follow such things know which shows score consistently score higher than others. That's why we can find bands travel an extra hour, past multiple other contests, to go to the show that tends to run a few points higher in their class than at others. I'm not sure the grid being public helps that, or if not having it up deters those from doing so. That part's a mystery.

The SCSBOA Grid is up and running! I don't know if this is by popular demand, or just delayed, but there it is. (I'd had a bad moment imagining hours with recaps and excel. :compute: )

It’s only up for a few days. Per the post on the SCSBOA website, it’ll be pulled down at 5pm on 10/31 and not republished until 11/10, ostensibly to announce the Championship finalists.

You can find southern California grids on this new site. Currently, only the SCSBOA grids are up, more to follow.
