I have seen several other surprising "reclassifications" of previously power house rated bands while entering the performance line ups into the entries on the WoP Events Calendar. Including several bands from neighboring schools combining to become one band for competitions, like Las Plumas/Oroville has done for many years. Covid policies have created many unintended side effects... :(

Fairfield in AA? Wow.
I too was shocked by the Fairfield entry.
But it was true - I saw them compete in Class AA today.

I'm not sure how much Covid had to do with it...Rodriguez (Fairfield) competed in 5A today and I think they're in the same district as Fairfield HS.
Meaning, if the size of the Scarlet Brigade was a function of Covid, I would have thought it would have impacted all high schools in the district equally.

All being said, it was a very different Scarlet Brigade.
BUT - the kids did their best and the three rifle girls (that was their entire auxiliary) performed their hearts out :D
And I think the crowd acknowledged that and provided hearty applause whenever they could during their show.

As a teaser for those that weren't there...
- no bagpipes (though I know there was a time that the Scarlet Brigade did not use a bagpipe intro)
- no drum major
- minimal auxiliary
Though I hope the auxiliary still received a score...pre-Covid, they would not have been scored (or possibly received a "DQ" for the caption?) since they would have had less than the minimum requirement of 5 students for an auxiliary team.

The Franklin parade recaps are up on the NCBA website. Fairfield's guard had the second highest score of the day! And the band came in first in their division and third overall. Not too bad for a 2A band :)

Fairfield High School (all around) has been in a slow decline for 20-25 years. In the late 90s they were a massive school (2,500 kids) with a massive band. I think the school enrollment is down to about 1,500 now, so that is definitely a big part. It's now the smallest school in the district, behind both Armijo (#1) and Rodriguez (#2).

Thank you for graciously letting me/us know ScrapHappy!

After you posted, I went to the website and perused the Franklin scores - http://www.ncbaonline.net/wp-content/up ... evised.pdf
Indeed, not bad at all for a 2A band at all.

AND...nice to see another "eternal bando" who still keeps a pulse on the Northern California fall pageantry scene :)
