Debut of Kaiser/Fontana Band Review - September 26, 2009

Post by dr » Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:56 pm

I am pleased to announce a new marching band competition debuting this fall –

The Kaiser/Fontana Invitational Band Review
Saturday, September 26, 2009, 10:00 AM

The event will be hosted by the award-winning Kaiser High School Catamount Pride Band and Color Guard, under the direction of Mr. Anthony J. Allmond. The Chairman of the event is Dennis Rodda.

Adjudication for the event will be provided by the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). A full panel of judges, including two music judges, will be on hand to adjudicate up to 40 high school, junior high school, middle school, and intermediate school groups competing for top honors in the categories of band, drill team, auxiliary, and drum major.

The focus of the event is to provide an early season “dress rehearsal” for these performers, allowing them not only to demonstrate their skills to date, but also to demonstrate and encourage their potential for the remainder of the season. The event will be organized just like the end-of-season events, allowing the groups to concentrate on their performances. Like any dress rehearsal, this is the time to make those inevitable mistakes and/or penalties so they can be adjusted and/or corrected for the rest of the season.

The scenic parade route is short (approximately 1.25 miles in length), beginning and ending at Kaiser High School, close to the San Bernardino (10) freeway. Buses and other vehicles will be parked just once, when they arrive, and will not need to be moved again until departure, after the awards ceremony.

An area near the end of the parade route will be designated a “show-off area,” and offers an alternative place for performers to watch the groups following them in the lineup without the need to walk back to the competition area. Drum majors are encouraged to return to this area to receive the salutes of later drum majors during their performances.

A variety of hot food and other refreshments will be provided by the Kaiser HS Band Boosters on the Kaiser HS campus.

Entry fee for the event will be $175 per band, and an additional $75 per drill team. Applications and specific details will be mailed out by June 19. Due to the early date of the event, the completed applications, along with the associated entry fees, must be received no later than August 31, 2009.

To request an application, reserve a space, or for any questions, contact Dennis Rodda at m.muaddib@verizon.net or
626.915.7477.

Admission is free of charge.

Applications are also now available on the SCSBOA website here:

The newest and earliest Southern California band review is set to go. Seven brave bands are scheduled to perform at the first Kaiser/Fontana Invitational Band Review Saturday, September 26, 2009, starting at 10:00 am.

The location has been moved to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. An area in the spacious parking lot will be set aside for this special event. Ample free parking is available for spectators and fans immediately adjacent to the parade route.

In addition to the official SCSBOA-adjudicated competition area, a second “show-off” area will be located near the end of the parade route, where the bands will perform any music they wish strictly for the audience. Snacks and other refreshments will be available near the parade route.

Spectators should enter the Speedway facility through Gate 2 on Cherry Avenue. They will then be directed to the parking area adjacent to the parade route.

Following the competition the bands and any interested spectators will gather at the Kaiser High School football stadium for the awards ceremony, starting at approximately 11:15 am. A variety of hot food items and other refreshments will be available at the stadium.

The address for the Auto Club Speedway (http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/) is 9300 Cherry Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335. The address for Henry J. Kaiser High School is 11155 Almond Avenue, Fontana, California 92337.

The event is hosted by the award-winning Henry J. Kaiser Catamount Pride Band and Color Guard, under the direction of Anthony J. Allmond.
