Who are some of the best drum majors in the recent years (2010's to now)?
My personal favorite is the Arcadia drum major from 2016 and 2017. I heard Arcadia had the same drum major for two seasons. And of course, Rebecca Kimn.

The best drum majors are at https://www.drummajorsofsocal.org/results-1/

DMSC have strict judging standards that are maintained throughout the years as all adjudicators' sheets are monitored tightly for accuracy and consistency throughout the seasons. Multiple yearly meetings are also held to keep judging quality high.

Students who have competed in DMSC events have been tested and truly have earned their titles for being the best drum majors around,

The grids from previous years are also posted at the bottom of the link I provided so you can see who were the other best DM's were from this decade.

In my opinion these are The best drum majors I’ve seen and heard about from 2010-now
2010,2011,2012 Mace drum major from So Cal Paul espitia. I think this guy is a real legend. Was the open class mace champion for three years in a row when WDMA was a thing most of my spins are inspired from him. Very clean

Nor cal drum majors:
This isn’t 2010 and so on but 2008 and 2009 Buhach colony thunder band mace drum major Bret Skinner who won drum major sweepstakes at the 2008 Santa Cruz band review and numerous other awards, spun infront of the band for two years and was a great leader from what I’ve heard

2009 and 2010 Franklin (Elk Grove)mace dm was really good won drum major sweepstakes at Santa Cruz in 2009 and won many other awards

Spun in front of the band 2009,2010,2011 Merced High school mace drum major Kenny Yang. Now he was a really great drum major. Undefeated for two years his junior and senior year from what I have heard. Just Look up Merced high school 2010 the elephant delta band review and Merced 2011 BBCF Santa Cruz band review and you will be amazed

2013 -2015 is blurry to me

Jerome muynila 2016 Vallejo HS Mace drum major now this is a student of erik gerolaga (Vallejo Hs drum major 2004. Was undefeated in the open division all of 4 years of high school. Totally awesome L pattern on YouTube classic) he was named champion of the 2017 winter season and he did so many flashy tricks but executed them so clean

Jackson Goudreau of Lincoln HS (Stockton) undefeated mace drum major for the school year of 2016-2017. Highest score was 98 at Lodi. At NCBA L pattern championships he scored a 94 and had the highest score while I tied 2nd overall with a 91.5 ,

This year Raymond Zhao and Caleb Hansen in my opinion. Both are very clean drum majors. Raymond Zhao does very flashy tricks and high tosses and the other executes very nice musical integration. Both have won drum major sweepstakes at least once this season. Raymond has been successful since his sophomore year and is now a senior at Irvington High school. Caleb Hansen is currently a sophomore and is the drum major for the Franklin band from Elk Grove. He has improved a lot I can’t even believe it 👌🏾

Rebecca Kimn seriously is the best drum major I have ever seen. I had the pleasure of watching her lead Diamond Bar for two out of the three years that she was their Dm, and I have to say that she really blows me away. She’s got the technical parts down and clean, and is, for lack of words, mesmerizing to watch. I believe, based on a couple YouTube videos, that she is proficient in mace as well as baton and that she also won a couple champion titles at WDMA when it was a big thing.
I find it hard now to be impressed with drum majors after having been spoiled by watching her spin the few years :P
Other than her, Glendora pours out an abundance of amazing drum majors, my personal favorites being from 2015 and 2016. I don’t think they were the same Dm, but it could be that they were.

I always feel so humbled when people bring up this topic every couple of years or so. People always compare awards and scores in order to provide a justified ranking. Although it's a wonderful notion to pay respect to these accolades; people often get overlooked even though they have better records. We are reminded that even though these accomplishments seemed important at the time, they often will be forgotten and replaced with new champions. This is why I have shifted my focus onto teaching and inspiring future generations to enjoy the moments that life has to offer, and to become the best version of themselves.

I agree with you she was very good. Also forgot about the 2013 Glendora drum major..Gaurav Parti. He was third place in the World scottish drum major games In my opinion him, JP Mora(2016 DM) and Beau Seim (2017 dm) are the best glendora drum majors ever but that's just my opinion.

Agreed!
Well stated Ryko :)

Early on in my DM teaching career, I focused solely on the sheets and how to get the highest possible score.
Not necessarily wrong, but an extremely myopic perspective on the role of drum major.
As if the drum major is purely defined by a professional tournament adjudicator!
(tongue in cheek of course)

As you said, there are great leaders that don't necessarily manifest by the way of routine score.
And the converse is true too - high scoring drum majors aren't always very good leaders.
The scores may provide an indication thereof but not a direct correlation.

I think the mark of a great leader is not purely in solo competitions (though they help), but how they inspire their ensembles to perform to their maximum potential.
This is true for both street and field in their unique contexes.

I've offered the following article to several I have helped out in the past.
I really do believe that when the ensemble succeeds, the drum major succeeds.
And the sky is the limit when it comes to applying principles learned from marching band/drum major.
I have experienced that in my life as many others have as well.
That is the best reward.
It's the reward that keeps on giving and blessing others wherever drum major alumns go :)

Gaurav is one of my favorite drum majors to watch too! He spins the mace like it doesnt weigh anything
