Mooresville High School has an immediate opening for a Color Guard/Dance Specialist 2017 – 2018. Mooresville High School is in Mooresville NC 30 minutes North of Charlotte, NC. The guard program has experienced excellent growth and success in the past three years. In 2015, we field our first ever Winter Guard. In 2017, we fielded three Winter Guard (Middle School 16 Members, Junior Varsity 14 Members, and Varsity 12 members). The winter guard programs competed in the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association (CWEA) and competed at three Winter Guard International Regionals (WGI) this year (2017). Regional finalist in 2016 and 2017.
The applicant should be a professional and student oriented instructor that is interested in building a program with a high standard of excellence. The applicant must have a strong background in movement and be proficient in teaching flag, rifle, and sabre. The applicant will develop the movement program for the guard and help develop the overall skill level of the guard in all areas. The applicant will help chorography the Fall and Winterguard show(s). The position will be paid through the Mooresville Graded School District. The applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Duties to include, but not limited to:
Creating an exercise program that develops dance skills and movement technique.
Developing the performer’s skills and performance quality.
Recommending/recruiting additional guard assistants.
Working with the Color Guard design team on writing Movement and Equipment work.
Recruiting for the Middle School and High School programs.
Working with director and staff to create a cohesive performance.
Teaching and cleaning all guard choreography/equipment work.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers, directors and fellow staff members as needed.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary for the betterment of the Mooresville High School Color Guard program.
Time Commitment:
Summer Rehearsals (Usually 2 Weeks)
Band Camp (2 Weeks)
Rehearsals during Fall/Winter season
Fall Competition Season
Winter Competition Season
Blue Devil Classic Contest (Host)
Winter Guard Contest (Host)
Preferred Experience:
Previous Color Guard teaching experience
Dance experience
Drum Corps experience
Previous High School teaching experience
Based on experience and skills. Salary is very competitive.
