Halftime Magazine is proud to announce the first annual “Nominate Your Band” video/essay competition. A grand prize, worth more than $2,500, will be awarded next fall to one student and his/her band. Remo Inc. and Yamaha Corporation of America are official sponsors.

The “Nominate Your Band” contest allows marching students to share their stories about how marching band has affected their lives. To many people, marching is a lot more than an activity. Marching band is a musical art, a visual art, a sport and a lifestyle. It’s a highly emotional, life-changing activity. It’s where teenagers meet their best friends, learn responsibility and practice teamwork.

Not only is “Nominate Your Band” a chance for students to share their stories, it’s also a great opportunity to win cash and prizes to benefit their own music education and their band program.

The grand prize, worth more than $2,500 comprises the following:

For the Winning Student:
• $250 paid to the student
• 1-year subscription to Halftime Magazine, valued at $19.95
• Halftime Magazine T-shirt and other possible merchandise

For the Nominated Band:
• $1,000 paid to the band
• Full set of Remo PowerMax pre-muffled marching bass drumheads, estimated retail value of $725
• $500 (retail value) in Yamaha accessories
• 1-year group subscription (10 copies per issue) to Halftime Magazine, valued at $149.50
• Halftime Magazine T-shirt and other possible merchandise

To enter the contest, students ages 14 to 25 should submit a 500-word essay AND short video in answer to the question, “How has marching band impacted your life?” Entries must be emailed or postmarked by March 1, 2008.

Finalists will appear in the May/June 2008 issue of Halftime Magazine as well as featured online. Halftime Magazine readers and website visitors will vote for the winning band.
